Death of John Corcoran RIP
It was with profound sadness and shock that we heard of the sudden death of a outstanding Gael,Colleague and friend John Corcoran Charman of St Marys GAA Club.
John was the former Chairman of The Carbery GAA Board and at the first Carbery Board Meeting of 2016 he was elected on the Executive Committee.John attended a CCC Meeting on Monday night in Dunmanway and his contribution to that Meeting was enormous in the planning of Carbery Fixtures for 2016.
Little did we know that in less than 24 hours John would have passed on to his eternal reward.
John attended his first Carbery Board Meeting in 1978.He refereed at all levels in The Carbery Division and officiated at numerous Flyer Nyhan Junior A Hurling finals in the Division including the replayed Final in 1990 between Bandon and Argideen Rangers.
He was manager of the Carbery Senior Football team that won Cork County Senior Football Championship in 2004.He served in different officership roles in the Carbery Division PRO2004-2006, Vice-Chairman 2011-2012, Chairman 2013-2015.He was also Runai  of Third Level Colleges GAA and college delegate to the Munster Council. He served his Club St Marys as a officer in many roles over the past 4 decades.
He served with Billy Morgan as a Cork Senior Football Selector from 2005-2007 and he was also a selector on the UCC winning Sigerson teams of 2011 and 2014.
John was a very proud Carbery man and he always portrayed Carbery  in the best possible manner. As Chairman he started the First Years Football Competition for second level Schools which has grown from strength to strength.Last November we were in Bantry celebrating The Carbery Hurling and Football All-Stars with special Guest on the night Uachtaran Cumann Luthcleas Gael Aogan O Fearghail,This is what John wanted  for the Clubs and players of The Carbery Division and this was achieved thanks to his great vision and dedication.
John stated that he would like to hand over the mantle of the GAA to the next generation in a stronger position and that he had no fears for the GAA in The Carbery Division.
