Carbery Monthly Award Winner July 2019

JULY  -  Muintir Bháire GAA Club

For many years Muintir Bháire used the community field, and sometimes, Ahakista, to play its matches, but needed a home of their own.  In 2007 a 17 acre farm  was bought just outside the village. Almost half a million euro was paid for the site but with men like Joe O’Driscoll, Tim Joe Kelly, Brendan O’Mahony and many more putting their shoulders to the wheel, the massive debt was tackled and cleared in ten years and a wonderful community effort means that the club is today free of all debt, an amazing achievement. The new pitch was laid out by contractors from Ballydesmond, with plenty local voluntary effort, and the club now boasts one of the finest playing surfaces in the division. A walkway for the community, and for athletics and such pastimes, was laid out. The club is now in the second phase of the development, with the ground being cleared and levelled for dressing rooms.
