THE O'Donovan Rossa senior footballers secured two Kelleher Shield victories last weekend against Beara and Na Piarsaigh respectively.
On Thursday evening, April 15, a Beara select were emphatically beaten by a strong Rossa outfit on a 1-15 to 0-9 scoreline. Donie Óg Hodnett notched the only goal of the game. Team: Damien Long, Eddie Nealon, Alan Tanner, Shane Crowley snr, Eoin Hodnett, Kevin Cotter, Paudie Crowley, Donal O'Sullivan, Paddy Nealon, Ger Minihane, Conor McCarthy, Thomas Hegarty, Daniel Hazel, Donie Óg Hodnett, Rob Long. Subs used: Sean Carmody, Denis O'Donovan, Shane Crowley jnr, Jerry Keohane, Ryan Price.
Skibb secured their second successive league victory last Sunday afternoon when they inflicted a comprehensive eight point win over a depleted Na Piarsaigh outfit. Skibb started brightly scoring 2-9 in a blistering opening half. Donie Óg Hodnett and Rob Long with the goals. Na Piarsaigh subsequently produced a better second half performance but were repelled by a strong Rossa defensive rearguard. Skibb emerged victorious on a 2-13 to 1-8 scoreline.

These two wins moved Skibb up to fifth place in division 2 having played four league games thus far this season. The next Kelleher Shield game for Skibb is an away clash against Aghada scheduled for Friday, April 30, at 7.15pm.
The junior 2 footballers succumbed to their first defeat in eighteen months last Friday night when Bandon emerged narrow victors after an entertaining league clash played in the Rossa Park. A very strong Bandon outfit boasting two  current members of the Cork minor football panel and a number of under-21 and established junior 1 players, amidst their ranks started brightly notching three early goals. Skibb gradually got to grips with proceedings as the first half progressed with impressive wing forward, John Bohane, kicking two superb long range points in the closing stages of the half to reduce the arrears to five points at the interval.
Skibb battled gallantly in the second half but were thwarted on four occasions by the heroics of Bandon goalkeeper Pat Prendergast to ensure the Lillywhites garnered the two points necessary to enable them remain top of the table. Skibb remain in joint second place in the league table having amassed three league points thus far. Their next two league games are scheduled for Clonakilty, in Ahamilla, on Saturday, May 8, and Goleen away on Saturday, May 15. The junior 1 footballers resume league action this Sunday morning when they play host to Bantry for their fifth game of the campaign. Skibb have won three games thus far. This game has a 1pm start in the Rossa Park. The minor hurlers commence their league campaign when they travel to play Gabriel Rangers in Ballydehob next Wednesday evening, April 28.
Thomas Hegarty lined out at full forward on the Cork minor team that defeated Clare in the first round of the Munster football championship last Wednesday evening in Cusack Park, Ennis. Cork resume championship action when they play Limerick in the semi-final stages on Wednesday, May 12
Congratulations are extended to club players, Aisling Kearney and Miheala Davis who played integral roles on the Mercy Heights senior ladies team that annexed the All-Ireland C football championship last Saturday after a thrilling win achieved against Scoil Mhuire, in Croagh, Co. Limerick. Aisling, daughter of Noel and Imelda, Baltimore Road lined out at corner back, whilst Miheala, daughter of Charlie and Marian, Gortnaclohy, notched 1-2 from her right corner forward position.
There was no winner of the lotto draw which took place in the Corner Bar, last Monday night for e4,000. The numbers drawn were 1, 7, 16 and 17. The consolation prize winner was Davia Aniuliene. Next week's lotto draw will be held in McCarthy's Bar, and will have a jackpot of e4,250.
THE O'Donovan Rossa junior 1 football team succumbed to their second successive league defeat against Bantry last Sunday morning in the Rossa Park.
Skibb who played with the benefit of the strong breeze in the first half produced an assured team performance in the opening period to enable them to hold an eight point interval lead. The Blues fought back gallantly in the second half with experienced campaigner Damien O'Neill ruling supreme at midfield. Bantry struck three goals in a five minute spell to eke out a four point win on a final scoreline of 3-10 to 0-15.

The junior footballers have enjoyed varying degrees of fortune in their league campaign thus far this season, they have won three games, and lost two.
The junior hurlers enjoyed a comfortable win against Bantry in a challenge game played last weekend in the Rossa Park. The junior hurlers resume league action this Sunday when they travel to Castletownkenneigh to play Diarmuid Ó Mathúnas. This game has an 11.30am throw-in. The junior hurlers have lost two league games thus far this season.
The senior footballers are billed to play Aghada away in the fifth round of the Kelleher Shield this weekend. The seniors have won two and lost two league games thus far.
The next general committee meeting will be held on Monday, May 10, at 8.30pm. The annual O'Donovan Rossa GAA golf classic fundraiser takes place this year on Saturday, June 5, in Skibberen Golf Club. This promises to be an enjoyable event. It also raises much needed revenue which is so vital for the continued progression of the club.
