The West Cork standard-bearers played with the breeze in the opening half and after 10 minutes they led 1-4 to 0-1.Jack Allen cracked home a penalty early on, while Conor Cullinane was on fire, firing over the four points. On 14 minutes, Jack Allen scored goal number two but Glen Rovers began finding the range in the second quarter, sending over a flurry of points.Carbery responded in kind and then in the 26th minute, a line ball was cut in superbly by Oisín McCabe from all of 70 metres which deceived the goalkeeper and ended up in the Glen Rovers net.The Glen got through for a goal to leave the half-time score: Carbery 3-11 ; Glen Rovers 1-7.
The Glen came into the game big time in the third quarter and began to reduce the Carbery lead with an early goal, followed by four points. The mercurial Jack Allen grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and two goals midway through the half eased Carbery’s worries. They piled on the pressure with some wonderful points from substitutes Jack Hegarty, Ben Twohig, and Alan Minehane, while Oisín McCabe chipped in with a few minors as well.
The Glen were far from finished and a twenty-one yard free ended up in the net, followed by another but the Carbery half-back line were superb as they cleared ball after ball under intense pressure.Three further points from the Glen forwards closed the gap but Carbery held out in a welter of excitement to win, 5-23 to 5-17.
